Congratulations, you have purchased your very own furniture creation!
To ensure you receive the absolute best from your Mango Crafts furniture for many years to come, please watch our repair videos and read through the care documents below. They will explain how easy the maintenance is, plus the major do’s and don’ts to ensure you stay within the warranty guidelines.
Woodcare & Maintenance
All of our furniture is treated with a sanding sealer and a spray varnish top coating. This varnish is robust for everyday use. It is heat-resistant, scratch-resistant, and stain-resistant but not heatproof, scratchproof, or stainproof, so due care and common sense are needed to keep it in good condition.
Cleaning
You can clean your furniture as normal with a warm cloth. Sticky food or greasy spots may need to be treated with mild soap and warmer water. Dip a cloth in mild soap dissolved in warm water, wring the cloth nearly dry, and wipe the area. Dry with a clean, soft cloth afterward. Frequent dusting removes airborne deposits that build a filmy layer on your furniture. Clean, dry, soft cloths will effectively remove dust. To avoid scattering the dust into the air, you can dampen the cloth slightly.
Maintenance with Celtic Restorative Polish
Mango Crafts recommends Celtic Wood Care as the best and only treatment for waxed, varnished, or previously-sealed wood. This old craftsman’s formula comes in a white bottle and is a liquid wax-based product. It nourishes the timber whilst also restoring it by cleaning and polishing the surface, thus maintaining and enlivening the character and grain of the table.
Celtic Wood Care also helps to prevent shrinkage. By nourishing the timber, it ensures the flexibility of the timber fibers, allowing the timber to continuously move to adapt through the seasonal fluctuations in house temperatures.
Nothing will prevent shrinkage, however, if the house is too warm. The dry heat of modern house heating systems can vary drastically. Natural timbers do not react well to houses with temperatures over 21c, especially dry air heating systems.
So extra care is needed to turn the heating down or this may cause shrinkage. The ideal house temperatures are 18 to 20c.
The best time to apply the treatment is before you go to bed at night. Shake the bottle well and apply a liberal coat of the polish all over the tabletop using a soft cotton rag. Finish by following the grain lines up and down the timber. This will lead to a better look after final buff polishing with a dry soft cloth.
The legs and base structure can be rubbed down with the same cloth whilst still damp to enrich a lively shine back into the wood. Celtic Wood Care can be used on any furniture that has been previously sealed with varnish or wax. It cannot be used on raw timber.
Scratches
One of the wonderful things about natural timber furniture is that they are very easy to repair for general wear and tear. We recommend Rustin’s Scratch Repair Cover as it is easy to apply, and comes in both a dark and light colour. This means you have an option for different colour wood grains. (See our web tutorials for more information).
Timber Movement
It is natural for wood to move a little. Natural wood is a living, breathing thing. You might notice that small cracks appear in the first 6-12 months of your table being in your home. This can be alarming to most people, but please be assured that if this does happen, it’s easily repaired with Ronseals (water-based) dark filler, (or any water-based filler will do) to fill any small cracks or shakes in the timber. It is very easy to apply with your finger, and dries quite quickly too.
IMPORTANT: Please keep your house temperature at 18-20c until the furniture has adapted and settled into its new home. More than 21c heat may cause violent bursts in the timber, and the fibres can not deal with this excessive dry air. Dry air effectively pulls the moisture out of the furniture and causing it to shrink.
Excessive house temperatures will not be covered under our warranty scheme.

Mango Crafts Guarantee
We are proud of our furniture creations, and handcraft each one with the love and care expected of us. This is why we provide a Repair or Replace Guarantee with our custom-made dining tables.
What we cover
- We guarantee the structure of our tables (in case they warp, bow or move and crack more than expected to happen naturally). This is subject to our professional assessment and to the house temperatures not being more than 21c.
- We guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship.
- In the unlikely event that your table needs repair or replacement due to the above two points, we will cover the costs incurred to rectify this.
We do not cover
- Accidental damage
- Normal wear and tear (like dents and scratches)
- Natural changes or movement
- Fading or colour changes due to excessive sunlight exposure
- Any violent bursts in timber caused by excessive heat in your home. We will call out to you for a free, professional assessment and even try to assist in your home. However, if the damage caused by excessive heat (or any other negligence) means we must remove the table and repair in our workshop, there is a minimum fee of €/£600 to collect and redeliver.
Table Maintenance
Table maintenance is a simple thing once you stick to these basic rules. If you maintain your house room temperatures at reasonable levels (18-20c), you will enjoy your furniture for a very long time.
If an accident has caused serious damage to the furniture (like nail polish remover), don’t get upset. Timber can always be sanded and repolished.
Mango Furniture Creations offer a full restoration and repolishing service. Please call our Kenmare shop for more information on 064 664 0862.
Some simple considerations to safeguard against common household accidents:
- No nail polish at the table! It is the single most destructive product to strip the surface of any varnished furniture.
- If kids want to do art, invest in a good oilcloth to cover the table. Then they can spill as much paint as they want!
- Give it some love, polish it regularly, and you will reap the benefits long term.
